OBITUARY

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Carrie Sue Skrabut, of Bay City, who left this world peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the age of 60. Carrie was born on March 28, 1964, to Michael & Barbara (Sullivan) Roth, where she cultivated a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit of kindness.
Carrie was a proud graduate of Ferris State University, where she not only earned her associates degree but also made her mark as an exceptional athlete. She was a celebrated All State Volleyball Player at Michigan Lutheran Seminary and went on to help MLS win the 1982 volleyball state championship. Beyond her athletic achievements, she was honored as the Bay County Women’s Golf Champion in 1994, showcasing her competitive yet generous nature. After college, Carrie was looking to keep busy, so she joined the United States Army where she proudly served her country.
In her professional life, Carrie served as a dedicated director of health information management at McLaren Bay Region, where she met the love of her life, Roger Skrabut, in the cafeteria. It was from this point forward that Roger affectionately called Carrie, ‘Roth’. Roger and Roth’s romance blossomed, leading to their joyous marriage on April 15, 1994, at Faith Lutheran Church. Together, they created a beautiful family, raising two wonderful daughters, Monica and Olivia, and welcoming the joy of grandchildren, Isla and Myles, who were the light of her life.
Carrie was a member of Hopevale Church, where she celebrated her faith and spread positivity among her peers. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life-golfing with friends, relaxing with a cold beer at Boyne Mountain with Roger, practicing yoga, and taking long walks with her beloved dogs. In the words of those who loved her, Carrie embodied optimism and selflessness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Above all, she found immense fulfillment in being a loving mother and grandmother, always cherishing the moments spent with family.
Carrie leaves to carry on her legacy, her husband of 30 years, Roger; daughters, Monica (Eli) Rytlewski and Olivia Skrabut; grandchildren, Isla Rae and Myles Henry Rytlewski; sisters, Connie (Bill Bouckaert) Kudrow Roth and Cheryl (Brian) Root; brother, Steven (Lynette) Roth; and parents-in-law, Raymond and Sharon Skrabut.
She was welcomed to her heavenly home by her parents, Michael & Barbara Roth.
Family and friends joined in celebrating Carrie’s life Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with Pastor Nate Murray presiding.
